Jester

Jester, the Joker

It's the weird moment between dark and light, dawn approaches.  A giggling figure appears in front of you and greets you: "I'm the Jester, the Joker!  What I say may or may not be true, think it through, it's up to you!"

You stare at the floating weirdo, unable to utter anything, really.

"It's almost dawn, almost day, another night has faded away.  And what have you earned, what have you learned?  You see me here and now - you might have seen me elsewhere, elsetime if that is even a word.  In the castle, during the night, 'tell you wot', meet me once again you might.

Tell you wot': this is your first clue of the lot.  There's a time for every character to appear during the night, always at uneven times, each has his or her moment to shine."

The creature hovers in the misty dawn and gives you the choice:
Start the night anew, relive the tale, see my true me - instantly
or off you go with the morning light, the night is over, the tale is told
